Dirty Projectors

I’ve seen Dirty Projectors twice this summer, and at first I thought that David Longstreth’s odd between-song banter, his colourful choice of cardigans, and the seemingly stream-of-consciousness nature to his songs were part of some idiosyncratric foible that one would only pick up on during a live show. But to have a poke around in the Dirty Projector’s repertoire is to realise that their whole style and approach to music is somewhere beyond postmodern, somewhere so far out there that you have to take your hat off to the wonderful craziness of it all. And nowhere is this more evident than in the video below…

Primitive (The Way I Treat You)

This super-catchy, “modern Velvet Underground” track got me into Ambulance LTd.’s only full-length album, ‘LP’, a well-received release of guitar driven pop-sensibility that successfully revived the new wave and shoegaze styles of the ’80s and ’90s.

As for where the band are now, it appears only Marcus Congleton (frontman and sole-songwriter on ‘LP’) remains, despite not being an original member himself.
