Quite surprisingly, Jonquil still remain a well-kept secret several months after their breathtakingly cohesive second album ‘Lions’ was discreetly released on Try Harder records. It may be because they’re a group of young Oxford students on a very small D.I.Y label but regardless, what Jonquil have on their hands here is a mammoth achievement that should make the indie world sit up and take notice.
I was fortunate enough to interview the band in August and, sadly, the piece is still floating around in that nightmare world of publishing: the indefinite magazine hiatus. I am aching for it to come out, just so I can do full and proper justice to this wonderfully uplifting record. In the meantime, I urge you to check out their Takeaway Shows with La Blogotheque.
