Atlas Sound – Oliver
The blog of Bradford Cox (Deerhunter/Atlas Sound) is the perfect example of how music and one’s personal life can seamlessly co-exist. With a refreshing lack of self-censorship, Cox uses it not only as a place to engage directly with fans but also as an outlet for his prolific recording. The singer’s sleepless nights often see him uploading whole EPs of fresh material as soon as they’ve been recorded; requested cover versions, mixtapes and even songs inspired by individual fans (such as ‘Oliver’, above) all supplement the often harrowing musings they appear alongside.
Even just today, Cox has shared an EP of demos including a 4-track recording of one of my very favourite songs of last year, ‘Fluorescent Grey’ – a day after uploading the bare bones of another favourite, ‘Spring Hall Convert’. This is exactly why the blog is one of the first websites I check into every morning. Nowhere else can you find the same kind of artistic immediacy.
