In the 10 years that have passed since its initial release, the success of In The Aeroplane Over The Sea has been a slow-burning one, canonised in indie circles yet still leaving the band in relative obscurity. Those still championing Jeff Mangum’s opus as a criminally overlooked classic include Magnet magazine (who rated it as the number one album between the period 1993 and 2003), Pitchfork (fourth best album of the ’90s, they say) and the eclectic book series 33 1/3, who specialise in the whole heralding-of-classic-albums business.
