David Karsten Daniels – ‘Martha Ann’
I’ve been fortunate this week. Plenty of musical gems have come my way and this album is most certainly one of them. Evocative of Will Oldham but with enough colour and variety to retain its own identity, Fear of Flying sticks out like a beacon amongst an overcrowded genre of American songwriters.
Just for good measure, have another taste:

David Karsten Daniels – ‘Oh Heaven Isn’t Real’
After a very fruitful five years in North Carolina, David recently packed up his smallest amplifier, his lightest electric guitar, and laptop before moving clear across the country to Seattle, Washington. Along the way he signed up for a new library card, figured out how to cook sweet potatoes, and got engaged to the love of his life. Every day now, he walks up and down Phinney Ridge soaking in the Cascades to the east and the Olympics to the west. It’s pretty cold and often rainy but the view can’t be beat. He figures each day he’ll keep taking this walk until his newest album Fear of Flying comes out April 28th (Fat Cat Records). After that, look for some touring of the UK and North America. In the meantime, watch for the first single from the record, Martha Ann, out now.
Fear of Flying has just been released on Fat Cat records.
