First Impressions: TV On The Radio – Dear Science

admin on Aug 18th 2008

I’m just back from a listening party for TV On The Radio’s forthcoming album Dear Science (September 23rd on 4AD) and I have to say it sounded as good as I had hoped. It was a little difficult to fully absorb everything while it was being blasted through a nightclub’s pumping pa system and the din of chatter amongst a soiree of tragically hip Nathan Barley types…but the free drink helped to make up for that. Slightly. The album sounds a lot denser than Return to Cookie Mountain and at times reminded me of Subtle’s recent release ExitingARM, but now and again songs such as the slower ‘Love Dog’ stripped things back to keep things simple but effective. Nothing jumped out at me as ‘anthemic’ on first listen but I expect that to change after giving it the kind of digestion it requires. Very much looking forward to the full release.MySpace
