Telepathe – I Can’t Stand It

Another pair of girls, another set of harmonising voices buried in haunting drones – this time from Brooklyn and produced by TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek. While this is not entirely indicative of Telepathe’s style, it’s one of the standout tracks on the excellent compilation Living Bridge, a double CD released on Rare Book Room records. Both the band and the collection are well worth checking out. Continue Reading »

This is a video of what seems to be a softer-sounding instrumental (possibly a demo) version of “Jedi”, a song by Swedish songwriter Erik Mattiason.

Melpo Mene – Jedi

Mattiason had been recording songs as Melpo Mene for years in near-obscurity until a Volvo ad picked up the song “I Adore You” from his 2008 album Holes, winning him coverage in a similar way to former labelmate Jose Gonzalez. Continue Reading »

Peggy Sue – The New Song

Song of the Day: Harlem – Witchgreens

Harlem – Witchgreens

There seems to be no end of thrashy, garage-revival bands at the moment and I’m lovin’ it: short, simple and effective with instantly catchy hooks and a sound that’s as lo-fi as possible. Harlem are from Austin, Texas and their album Free Drugs is available for $10 through Paypal. Continue Reading »
