Animal Collective – Merriweather Post Pavilion

Is there any other musical presence out there quite like Animal Collective? I’m just back from seeing them perform their extraordinary new material, officially released in the morning, and it was as spirit raising as you could hope for. “I’m getting lost in your curls…”; “I don’t mean to seem like I care about material things like a social status…”; “Lion in a coma, lion in a coma…”; “No more runnin’!” – simple sentiments expressed beautifully, ideas that seem obvious delivered in an irresistibly catchy way – that’s pop genius.
