The Week Ahead in Gigs
admin on May 5th 2009
Take a glance at the calendar on the sidebar and you’ll see that May is going to be a hectic month for live music in London. Even with the time and money (or the guest passes) to tackle a gig most nights of the week, it would still be impossible to catch everything. For the highlights of what’s on this week,
For starters, Richard Swift is playing the intimate Monto’s Water Rats tonight and tomorrow it’s a toss-up between Au at The Lexington or Marissa Nadler at The Luminaire (incidentally, check out a collection of Nadler’s cover versions here and her rendition of Carole King’s ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow’ here). Thursday offers the chance to see the fantastic Sharon Van Etten, the woman behind the handwritten fan letters and heartbreaking folk, promoting her new album Because I Was In Love at The Slaughtered Lamb. That this gig will also include Virgin Passages makes it unmissable – and it’s only £6. On Friday, the long since sold out Beirut and Shearwater double-bill at The Forum is likely to be a good night for scalpers but those without a ticket might be better off catching School of Seven Bells supporting White Lies at Heaven.

Lucky lucky London! Richard Swift cancelled his most recent gig here, I was gutted
Really wanted to hear the new stuff live.
Bummer. The set was mind numbingly good. Full crowd were properly into it too. I’ve seen him 5 times now and he (and band) get better and better every time (which i didn’t think was possible). Really unbelievable and hit me right in the stomach… in a good way!!!!
Yeah, it was great! Why the bummer?
