Girls – Summertime
It’s release day for Girls’ debut, one of my favourite albums of the year – and they’re playing at the Lexington tonight, followed by an in-store at Rough Trade tomorrow, a European tour, and then back for a show in Hoxton and an another in-store at Pure Groove by the end of October. When I saw them in May, I was only familiar with the songs I had been blogging and they performed to an apathetic, chattering crowd. Now that I’ve had the album on repeat for a while, I’m hoping tonight will be a completely different live experience. This is one of the better cuts from the album…perfect for staving off the changing seasons.

I heard this track last week on a college radio station in a great small town near Scranton, Pa. Excellent tune. great arrangement, vocals.. It is a favorite new song of mine now.
It’s a classic! Really nice album overall. Going to interview them in a few hours from now.
I covered this song Halloween night in a small bar in a smaller town called Nacogdoches, in East Texas. I used a drum machine for drums and used a phase shifter on my guitar like they do to give it that 60s sounds. When I finished I said, “That was by a great San Francisco band called ‘GIRLS’” and I heard a collective ‘OH!’ knowing that they had all just heard an amazing song by a band they had no idea about. Go GIRLS!! you rock!!
