Seven Saturdays’ intricate electro ambiance was originally conceived to score the sensation of feeling trapped in Los Angeles; but a cursory browse through YouTube hints that it must have been made with the BBC documentary series Planet Earth in mind. They are a live band, featuring members and collaborators of M83, St. Vincent and David Bowie; yet also the solo project of Jonathan D. Haskell, formerly of FIRS. A self-titled EP is released next week.MySpace

If you can get your hands on the newly released box set of Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space by Spiritualized, the a cappella and gospel choir outtakes of ‘I Think I’m in Love’ on Disc 2 are the only tracks you need to hear today. You can get some sense of the force of it from this video, when the band were accompanied by an eight-piece string section, six-piece horn ensemble and a 12-strong choir, as part of ATP’s Don’t Look Back series in October. It remains at the very top of the live shows I’ve seen this year. Below you can see the original recorded version set to the climactic scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
