    Chris Garneau – Dirty Night Clowns

    Chris Garneau’s second album, El Radio, feels like it has been in the pipeline for a long time now. I remember saying hello to him in Paris towards the end of 2007 and Eleanor the Cats and Kids, as it was then titled, was on its way. Though the name has changed and a trip to Mexico had an impact on its themes, the work is still an homage to his grandmother and draws inspiration from historical female figures.     Kneeling down over a curious-looking antique pump organ, Chris Garneau opened the evening with his love songs of hush-toned whimpers accompanied by a cellist. Stark and overflowing with quirky detail, his music was granted the intimacy it required despite the volume of numbers still filing in, drawing reverential respect and thunderous applause.
