Deradoorian – You Carry the Deed
Amid the tornado of praise and excitement that will greet Dirty Projector’s Bitte Orca, it’s important to remember that the band’s Angel Deradoorian will be releasing her own gush-worthy EP next month, from which this belter is the third track. She has been recording solo songs sporadically for years but this is the first batch that the 22 year-old has deemed fit for public consumption…just make sure you do. Mind Raft is released on 5 May through LovePump United. Continue Reading »

Dirty Projectors – Stillness Is the Move
I’ve seen the Dirty Projectors a few times now but what drew me to their show last week at La Scala was the strength of the new material, as broadcast by NPR from the band’s set at SXSW recently. They have outdone themselves this time (particularly the interplay between Angel and Amber) and Bitte Orca is set to be one of the most impressive albums of 2009. To call it more accessible would be misguided; accessibility doesn’t factor into Longstreth’s musical vision…it’s just genius. Download Stillness Is the Move, the album’s first single, for free here. Dirty Projectors
admin on Jul 24th 2007

I’ve seen Dirty Projectors twice this summer, and at first I thought that David Longstreth’s odd between-song banter, his colourful choice of cardigans, and the seemingly stream-of-consciousness nature to his songs were part of some idiosyncratric foible that one would only pick up on during a live show. But to have a poke around in the Dirty Projector’s repertoire is to realise that their whole style and approach to music is somewhere beyond postmodern, somewhere so far out there that you have to take your hat off to the wonderful craziness of it all. And nowhere is this more evident than in the video below…
