Video: Patrick Kelleher – Coat To Wear

admin on Jun 13th 2009

Lovely track by a promising artist with a noteworthy debut album on the way. Patrick Kelleher is a 24-year-old one-man band from Glendalough, Co. Wicklow (by way of Rugby) who is adept at creating dark, textured atmospherics guided by a voice already battling against comparisons to Owen Pallett. You Look Cold is released through Osaka on 19 June, with the album launch party the night before in Dublin’s Academy 2.

Final Fantasy – Sweet Fantasy

Final Fantasy – Sweet Fantasy (Mariah Carey cover)

There was a moment during last year’s Electric Picnic where the weekend all came together for me. It was during Final Fantasy’s set – probably the highlight of the festival – when he launched into this undeniably endearing cover version (that’s what happens when gay indie stars perform kitsch pop songs). It’s not a new song, of course, but I came across it again today and it took me back to that moment – embarrassingly, I remember getting a little teary eyed. There’s just something about Pallett’s take on this where he nails that feeling of euphoric affection…

Owen Pallett Curates ‘Maximum Black’ Festival

admin on Feb 9th 2008

A spot of cheeky plagarism by Austrian company Wiener Stadtwerke has landed Owen Pallett the opportunity to curate his own festival across three cities. Alongside Pallett will appear Six Organs of Admittance, Deerhoof, Dirty Projectors, Final Fantasy and Frog Eyes (among others) as the mini-fest hits Vienna, Berlin and London. After originally being refused permission to use Final Fantasy’s “This Is the Dream of Win & Regine,” the Vienna-based public-works company took things into their own hands and hired a musician to create a not-so-conspicuous knock-off. Rather than sue them, however, Pallett was much happier for them to finance his own personal music festival.
