Fight Bite – Spring Rain
I think this song works really well as a companion piece to the previous post. As I hinted at in my ‘Best Songs of 2008‘ mix, I think the longing, minimal sounds of Texan duo Fight Bite have a lot of potential. The good news is that an LP, Emerald Eyes is officially out on October the 28th, a selection of tracks from which have just been put on MySpace, and an mp3 of ‘Widow’s Peak’ has been made available for free download. Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings was great fun last night. The band is a slick outfit and as tight as you’d expect them to be. Jones, on the other hand, is quite the show-woman. Perfect for a sunny, slumbering Sunday. Maybe you can’t quite remember the awful mistakes of last night, or maybe the only mistake you made was letting the weekend and all its possibilities slip by. The coming week is looming; it could be your last day in the country, or maybe you’ve just arrived. Perhaps you can’t even see anything past a walk on this crisp, cloud-less afternoon…and you can’t tell if that’s a good or a bad thing.
From the critically acclaimed album White Chalk, there’s something about this song that seem to cover all of the above and more.
