Mumford & Sons – The Cave
Now that Noah and the Whale have traded in their sound and seem ready to take on stadia-sized audience, their friends Mumford & Sons could prove to be ready-made replacements as family-orientated folk heroes. Much like NOTW did last summer, this London quartet treads between twee and melodrama, “ripping off Shakespeare” to rouse the world-weary in you. The third installment of their EP trilogy The Cave and the Open Sea is available to download from www.rawrip.com as of today. A stint with the Maccabees in May followed by their own headline tour in September makes them a good bet to find success in 2009.

This song is so chirpy and so cheerful that it very well may leave you with a headache. I first heard of Noah and the Whale when they were in Austin shooting a Take Away Show in a rented house with Vincent Moon during SXSW. Since then, their heartwarming live shows has seen them pick up slots on the stages of Glastonbury, Oxegen, Lollapalooza, V, Field Day, and the End of the Road festivals, all this summer.
