Video: Andrew Bird & St. Vincent – Soirée de Poche
admin on Sep 17th 2009
Ah, amazing. Just the combination of these two artists in a Parisian apartment. It doesn’t help my daily longing to return to France. I have to get to another soirée! In fact if my passport had not just expired, I would be on a train to Paris to catch David Thomas Broughton performing at a flower market on Saturday. La Blogothèque has it all.

Video: Patrick Watson – Take Away Show (new)
admin on May 12th 2009
It has been a year in the making, but finally La Blogotheque have uncovered what they feel is the best Take Away Show so far: Patrick Watson road-testing songs from the forthcoming album, Wooden Arms, around Paris from day ’til night. Of the four videos, I like this one best: Patrick Watson and co. have left their Soirée de Poche (an intimate concert recorded and uploaded seperately a year ago) to continue the performance on the streets in true Take Away style. A video from the crowd’s perspective during AC’s performance at the Bataclan last month, nicely capturing the unbridled euphoria their music creates. The perfect way to start off a Monday.

Peter Sarstedt – Where Do You Go To
Put to brilliant use in the Wes Anderson short Hotel Chevalier, for me this song evokes a very particular scene of a different kind. It has the trademark Parisian accordion in there and it’s chocful of clichéd images too; but having spent a lot of time there, those are the things you take with you, making this song a charmer.

MGMT – ‘Electric Feel’
It’s not everyday that my choice of gig overlaps with that of screaming teenage girls, but this was not the only surprise that MGMT’s live show offered. Having recently ditched the two-guys-and-an-iPod setup, Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden now lead a rather sharp five-piece band, giving the the songs’ complexion a total makeover in the process.
